INTRODUCTION
This essential reference guide contains information on postgraduate qualifications and courses in medicine in the UK. It is arranged alphabetically by specialty and in each case it lists separately: professional qualifications; academic qualifications; and specialised training courses. The Guide does not aim to comprehensively cover research programmes in medicine as these are, to a large extent, tailor-made. To find out what research programmes are available you should write to the institutions of your choice, outlining your area of research. Brief details are given of the conditions that must be fulfilled before qualifications can be awarded and before courses can be taken. You should, however, obtain full details of these conditions from the body awarding the qualifications or the institution running the course. In some cases candidates must be registered with the UK General Medical Council. Overseas doctors should apply for registration at least 9 months before they intend to commence training in the UK giving full details of their primary qualifications in medicine.
